Digital Preservation Policy
Commitment to preservation
REMAP assumes that open access only fulfills its purpose if knowledge remains available over time. For this reason, the journal adopts mechanisms that ensure the conservation and permanent accessibility of its contents, regardless of technological or institutional changes. This policy describes the means through which the journal preserves its archive and ensures its continuity.
Preservation mechanisms
REMAP preserves its contents through the mechanisms available in Open Journal Systems and through the periodic backups of the information technology infrastructure of the University of Guanajuato. The journal also works to strengthen its preservation strategy through distributed preservation services compatible with the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), a service integrated into Open Journal Systems that preserves copies of articles in a network based on LOCKSS technology, when it is active and verified in the journal's platform.
These mechanisms seek to maintain verified copies and recovery options so that contents remain accessible even in the event of failures in the original platform. The journal periodically reviews the status of these mechanisms and updates this policy when new preservation options become available.
Contents and identifiers preserved
Preservation includes published articles in PDF format, their metadata, and, when available, their structured versions. Each article has a persistent DOI, assigned through Crossref with the institutional prefix 10.15174, which provides a stable means of location even when the website addresses change. The journal seeks to keep the metadata associated with each DOI complete and up to date.
Continuity of the archive
If REMAP were to cease publication or if its platform were to stop operating, the journal would seek to maintain access to the preserved contents through the available institutional and preservation mechanisms. Persistent identifiers would continue to serve as a stable route to the preserved copies or to the institutional locations defined for the journal's archive. REMAP undertakes to inform the academic community of any relevant change in its operating conditions.
Validity and updating
This policy is reviewed periodically as the available preservation options evolve. Questions may be directed to the Editor of REMAP at remap@ugto.mx.
